CM to write to Centre on sugar sector issues
Seeking a solution to the sugarcane farmers’ woes, Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Friday said he would write to the Centre requesting it to tackle the sugar sector problems.
“Sugar factory owners have requested me to talk to the Centre. Because of the Union government’s policy, sugar factories are unable to sell their stocks and unable to pay dues of the farmers,” he told reporters after meeting representatives of sugar factories. He also said that the government was willing to settle Rs. 200 to Rs. 250 crore dues held by power supply companies towards power supplied by sugar factories on the condition that factories clear the dues.
