Sugar mill gate prices receded by Rs 10 per quintal at the wholesale market in the national capital today following ample stocks position on sustained arrivals from mills amid selective buying. However, sugar spot prices enquired at overnight closing levels on sporadic buying support. Marketmen said mounting of stocks on steady inflow of supplies from mills coupled with need base buying by stockist and bulk consumers, mainly brought down the mill gate sugar prices.

Dozen-odd sugar mills begin crushing so far: Official
More than a dozen mills in key sugar producing states like Uttar Pradesh have started crushing operations this year, a Food Ministry official said today. The government has projected higher sugar output at around 25 million tonnes for the current 2017-18 season (October-September), as against 20.3 million tonnes in the last year. "Some mills have commenced crushing operations in Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. It will pick up in the coming days," the official told PTI.

Haryana hikes sugarcane SAP by Rs 10/quintal
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today announced a hike of Rs 10 per quintal in the State Advisory Price (SAP) of sugarcane. The state government is already paying the highest price of sugarcane to the farmers. Speaking on the concluding day of the winter session of the state assembly, the chief minister said in view of the beginning of the wheat sowing season, supply of electricity for agriculture sector would be increased from the existing eight hours to 10 hours per day up to November 15, 2017.

Cane crushing in Haryana to start from Nov 1
All cooperative sugar mills in Haryana would start sugarcane crushing from November 1, which is 21 days ahead of the current crushing season, state Agriculture Minister O P Dhankar said today. The capacity of sugar mills in Karnal, Panipat and Sonipat would be raised to 3,500 tonnes, 5,000 tonnes and 2,200 tonnes per day from the existing 2,200 tonnes, 1,800 tonnes and 1,600 tonnes, respectively.

TN sugar mills want govt to take pricing lessons from neighbours
The sugar industry in Tamil Nadu hopes the State government will shift to a pragmatic policy on sugarcane pricing from the current season. The State government has to emulate major sugar-producing States such as Karnataka, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh, which have shifted to a revenue-sharing formula based on sugar prices, say sugar mill representatives and farmers. A delegation, including farmers, visited Karnataka to study the working of the revenue-sharing model.

UP Govt. to set up new sugar mills, modernise older ones: Adityanath
Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh)[India], Oct 16 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday said that new sugar mills will soon be set up and the present ones will be revamped and modernised to help the sugarcane farmers in the state.
Adityanath, who was addressing a gathering in Gorakhpur, also announced that a new sugar mill would be set up in the district in a span of one year.

Authorities in north China's Hebei Province have intercepted a live invasive beetle found in a shipment of goat skins from New Zealand. This is the first time the species have been detected and seized in China, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

ENA is a derivative of sugar manufacturing and a pre-form of ethanol.
